The Aqaba Water Company recently obtained the ISO 50001 international certification for its energy management system, a step that reflects the company's ongoing commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and achieving environmental and economic sustainability. This certification is a global standard aimed at improving energy performance in organizations, thereby strengthening the company's ability to provide efficient and cost-effective services to citizens.

This achievement is the result of collaborative efforts among all partners in the water sector, the Water Authority, and international supporters, most notably the German Development Agency (GIZ), which was the primary funder and supporter of this project. All departments within the Aqaba Water Company participated in implementing a comprehensive plan to build an effective energy management system in accordance with global best practices, with close monitoring by the company's management and the Loss and Energy Efficiency Department.

The action plan included implementing specialized training programs to enhance the skills of energy sector employees, developing precise tools for measuring and analyzing energy consumption at the company's various sites, and implementing remote monitoring and control systems to improve the accuracy of tracking and documentation. The company also worked on upgrading its equipment and adopting modern, energy-efficient technologies, in addition to studying renewable and alternative energy projects and analyzing their feasibility, while calculating energy savings scientifically and systematically.

The company based this endeavor on a clear energy policy that reflects its commitment to improving energy efficiency within its service areas, ensuring continuous improvement through data documentation and analysis, and providing the appropriate resources and technologies to achieve its objectives within national and international frameworks. The policy includes an explicit commitment to legal requirements and standards related to energy use and renewable energy sources.

Engineer Wael Al-Duwairi, General Manager of the Aqaba Water Company, affirmed that this achievement reflects the company's vision of institutional and operational excellence and reinforces its position as a national institution striving to achieve the highest levels of quality and sustainability. He added that the company will continue its efforts to raise awareness of energy issues among its employees, encourage them to adhere to energy management policies and procedures, and propose opportunities for improvement in all its operational processes, thus ensuring the sustainability of resources and the provision of efficient and cost-effective services to citizens.
