The second and final consultative session to discuss the draft comprehensive environmental and social impact assessment study for the "Disi-Aqaba Water Conveyor" project.

The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and the Aqaba Water Company held the second and final consultative session to discuss the draft comprehensive environmental and social impact assessment study for the “Disi-Aqaba Water Conveyor” project, within the framework of the USAID-funded infrastructure enhancement project.
The session witnessed a wide attendance from representatives of relevant ministries, governmental and non-governmental institutions, major investors, academic bodies and environmental associations, in addition to representatives of the local community in Aqaba, Al-Disi Municipality and Wadi Rum area, in order to complete the environmental approval requirements for the project in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Protection System No. (21) of 2001 and its amendments in force in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and in accordance with Jordanian national legislation.

Aqaba Water Company Director General, Engineer Wael Al-Duwairi, said that the project represents a strategic step towards enhancing water security and achieving sustainable development in the south of the Kingdom. It aims to establish an additional pipeline for Disi water alongside the existing pipeline to pump approximately 12 million cubic meters of drinking water annually, which will contribute to strengthening water resources in the Aqaba Governorate and improve the efficiency and sustainability of water supply services to meet the needs of the population and economic sectors.
Al-Duwairi confirmed that the amount of water that will be supplied to the city of Aqaba will reach about 28 million cubic meters annually after the completion of the project, as the additional quantities will be drawn from the existing well field consisting of 20 wells, which will become 22 wells after the project is implemented.

Approximately 12 million cubic meters per year will be transported via the new transmission line, with an estimated total length of 68 kilometers, while the existing line will continue to transport approximately 16 million cubic meters per year.
